风筝 Kites


在中国,放风筝是一个非常古老的传统,可以追溯到大约2000年前。历史上,风筝起源于军队,用于在战场上传递导航和通信情报。现在它主要是一种流行的娱乐活动。


在他的装置中,Arnd Muller让他的三个“锤骨锤”征服了天空。“也许你的愿望像鸟儿一样自由地旅行……”这是他的意图,或者是:“……永远不要低估幻想的力量!”


In China, flying kites is a very old tradition dating back some 2000 years. History has it that kites originated from the military to pass navigation and communication intelligence across the battlefields. Nowadays it is mainly a popular pastime activity.


In his installation Arnd Muller allows three of his “Malleus Hammers” to conquer the skies.“Maybe the wish is to travel free like birds again…” is his intention, or is it: “… never underestimate the power of fantasy!”

无名的工人 Anonymous Workers


铸钢围合成的一个圆-这是工人日常生活中的一个循环。


这96件来自“无名工人”系列的雕塑作品,是艾恩在铸造厂里度过的一段艰难岁月的结果,这个工厂位于北京和上海之间的一个贫瘠农村,他在铸造砂中用赤手空拳铸造。


艾恩收集了废金属、钉子、水管、汽车轮毂等,甚至把发动机缸体切成碎片,以便获得铸造的原材料。


这是中国近代史上巨大飞跃的一个纪念。它对于中国底层工人的成长环境具有象征意义。



Steel cast bursts a circle - its the circle of existence in workers daily.

 

These 96 sculptures from the series of “Anonymous Workers” they are the result of a harsh time the artist had in a poor foundry in a rural are between Beijing and Shanghai. Arnd shaped with bare hands moulds in the foundry sand. He collected scrap metal; Nails, water pipes, car rims etc and cut engine blocks into pieces in order to get the raw material for the bursts. It is a remembrance of the great leap forward in recent Chinese history. It's symbolic for the circumstances under which the lower class of workers in China grows up.



长城 Great Wall


艾恩最新的装置品“长城”与他之前的铁锤系列作品大相径庭,对比鲜明。无论是“铁锤竖琴”还是“铁锤圆环”都传达了一种顽皮欢快的感觉,而“长城”则表现出了约束克制的魄力。


艺术家选取多个大小不同的块状“冷冻铁锤”,将其随机摆放堆叠成一道弧形的墙。铁锤被包含在树脂中,展示出一种无声、坚固又完美的形象。然而,它们似乎仍然不愿意抛弃自身内在的属性,想要破茧而出,打破树脂的禁锢。


墙体的弧度使观赏者的注意力集中到了中心,并且使这件作品具有强烈的紧张感。尽管铁锤在树脂块中并不安分,墙体仍然坚固如初。


Arnd’s resin cast installation, “Great Wall", stands in stark contrast to his previous "Hammer Series". Where the “Hammer Circle” or "Hammer Harp" conveys a feeling of playfulness and joy, "Hammer Wall" comes across as restrictive and forceful.


It consists of a curved wall of randomly placed "Frozen Hammer" bricks of different sizes. The hammers are casted in resin and appear silent, solid and perfect. Some do seem however, unwilling to give up their intrinsic hammer-nature and try to burst out of their resin prison. 

The curvature of the wall draws the attention to its center and gives the work a strong feeling of tension. The wall stands solid despite the revolting bricks.



父与子 Father and Son


艺术家的父亲并不是他的生父。他收养了那个男孩,把他当作自己的孩子抚养成人。在成长和教育的过程中,父亲给予孩子尽可能多的价值观。最后,他们可能会有更多的共同的态度、行为和信仰,这些是无法通过血缘关系传递的。

The artist's father is not his birth father. He adopted the boy and raised him as his own. During the growing up and educational process, he gave the artist as many of his own values as possible. In the end, they may have more attitudes, behaviours, and beliefs in common then would be possible through blood relationship. 



女皇 Empress

她是这群人的首领。有着高贵的特权和崇高的头衔。

她的半身像放置于众多支腿支撑的铁王座上,象征着构成社会基础的大量下属。


She is the leader of the pack. Privileged and sublime to the anonymous workers made of the same cast steel ingredients but noble in descent she is crowned with raised head.


Her bust stands on several legs on an iron base and symbolises the mass of subordinates who form the basis of society.



艾恩自二零零零年起开始定居中国北京,这里俨然已经成了他的第二故乡。这座巨大的城市每天都会带来新鲜的挑战,而这也让艾恩改变了对于生活和创作的理解及态度。在艾恩看来,这些挑战就像是一场永不落幕的盛宴,使他的创作嗅觉日益灵敏。


Arnd Christian Müller lives and works in Beijing, China, since 2000, making Beijing his longest uninterrupted place of residence. The challenges of everyday life in this megacity change perception and attitude on life and creativity. Arnd experiences it as a never-ending feast for his ever-alert creativity.



艾恩:

“对我来说,它们反映了现代生活。

每天工作,忙碌而又积极。每一个都在这有机的整体里扮演自己的角色,只是分工不同而已。每天重复同样的动作,一起一落,无数遍的敲打。起床、咖啡、工作、晚餐、入睡。反反复复,周而复始。

当我们老了、累了,幸运的人可以停止工作,颐养天年。有的身上可能留下了更多岁月的痕迹,可也有些还是完好无损,保留着最初制造抛光后的美丽…

但可以确定,它们老了,我们也老了。不容否认。

但它们产生的声音,那样平和圆润,毫不造作,和谐融洽。

这就像我们年迈后所诉说的故事。虽然音量不同,美丑不一,长短各异,但这合声却讲述着人类的故事。

不管我们曾经历过何种痛苦,这声音依旧如此美妙动听。”



"To me they reflect modern life.

Working every day, being busy and active. Some more than others, every single one a different task in this organic system we are part of. Making the same movements every day, up and down, hitting the material and back again. Getting out of bed, coffee, work, dinner, and back in bed again. Up and down, up and down.

And then, when we are old and exhausted, some of us are lucky enough to retire. Some show more signs of the work they've done during their lives. Others still perfectly intact, whether natural beauty or injected, polished, fixed, repaired…

It's still clear they're old, we're old. You can't deny.

But the sounds they make, are peaceful, accomplished, done, no hectic, just harmony.

The stories we tell when we're old sound the same. Some louder, more exciting, uglier, more beautiful or longer than others, but in harmony they form the story of mankind.

And it sounds beautiful despite all of the individual misery we went through."
